国産材の杉を使用して「もり」と「まち」のつながりを取り戻すための家具デザイン開発

日本は、国土の約七割が森林であり、そのうち四割が人工林であるが、その43％に杉が植えられており、その多くの杉が伐期を迎えているため、高付加価値な利活用が求められている。
このプロジェクトは、東日本大震災の被災地である宮城県の杉を使い、杉の持つ柔らかさや軽さを生かして県内の医療施設や介護老人保健施設のデイルームなどで利用するための家具を開発するものである。杉の柔らかさや軽さを生かして、高齢者に優しい家具をデザインする事を目標とした。また、震災被災地の木材を使うことで地域林業の復興と、木材利用の促進により国内の森林再生を目的としている。
Japanese national land is 70% forest, and of that, 40% is planted forest on which Japanese cedar is 43% of what is planted. Most of this Japanese cedar is approaching its cutting cycle, and value-added use and application is sought for these trees.
This project uses Japanese cedar from Miyagi Prefecture, an affected area of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and develops furniture that can be used for medical facilities as well as elderlycare facilities in Miyagi Prefecture, taking advantage of the softness and lightness of Japanese cedar wood. The objective is to design furniture comfortable for elderly people, taking advantage of the softness and lightness of Japanese cedar.
Also, by using lumber from the earthquake-stricken area, domestic reforestation is sought through promotion of lumber used and local lumber industry restoration.
