membership
Regular members consist of individuals who are attempting to contribute to scholarly research in the field of design, who meet the criteria laid out in the Qualification Standards for Membership in the Japan Society for the Science of Design (hereafter, “membership rules”), and who have been approved by the Board of Directors.
To qualify for regular membership, an applicant must meet one of the following criteria for academic record or experience in design:
- A graduate in design from a 4-year college or university in Japan or similar institute of higher learning overseas
- A graduate in a field other than design from a 4-year college or university in Japan or similar institute of higher learning overseas, but who has a research history related to design
- A graduate student majoring in design or an undergraduate student who is studying design as a major or research field at a 4-year college or university
- A person who has majored in design at a junior college, technical college, or similar school, and who has conducted related research for at least 2 years after graduation
- A person who has majored in design at a high school or similar secondary school and who has conducted related research for at least 4 years after graduation
- Other applicants whom the Board of Directors deems to be qualified

13,000 yen/year; one-time 5,000 yen admission fee
